Cathrine Raben Davidsen
(Danish, born 1972)
Biography
Cathrine Raben Davidsen is a Danish artist known for her drawings, paintings, ceramics, and fabric works. Davidsen draws inspiration from folklore, mythology, and art history, employing a contrast of delicate lines and intense patches of colors that guide the viewer into her personal narrative—one that often centers on transformation. “In one way or another, human beings are constantly in a process of transformation,” the artist has explained. “Events that impact on our lives, the transition from child to adult, the relationship with our parents and children and with the world, all color us and change us and make us into the people we are.” Her work is characterized by her interest in materials, which influences her experimental style and broad range of techniques. Born in 1972 in Copenhagen, Denmark, Davidsen received her MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Her works are in the collections of the National Gallery of Denmark in Copenhagen and the Horsens Museum of Modern Art, among others. She has created costumes and sets for the Royal Danish Ballet and received several prestigious awards, including the 2009 Creative Circle Award, Silver for White Ink Publication. Davidsen lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.
