About This Lot

Born in 1928 in Charleston, Illinois, Alice Baber studied at Indiana University in Bloomington, where she worked with figurative expressionist Alton Pickens, and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1964, she married fellow artist Paul Jenkins. Baber was well known for being an outspoken feminist, often organizing exhibitions of works by women artists. Her paintings can be found in the permanent collections of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim Museum, and Whitney Museum as well as the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.
