About This Lot

Dominic Chambers, born in 1993 in St. Louis, is known for his vibrant paintings utilizing color and gesture. His work focuses on the issues of contemporary society such as race and identity. This painting explores the present day need for reflection and leisure by showing the subject reading. Although the work is seemingly literal, Chambers packs meaning and history into each creation. He received his BFA from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2016 and an MFA from Yale University School of Art in 2019. His work has been exhibited across the United States and Europe, including at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center in Pittsburgh, Seattle University and CFHILL Stockholm. The artist lives and works in New Haven, Connecticut.
